A former Rydal Penrhos pupil has triumphed at the Conwy Half Marathon, one of the most prestigious sporting events in the region.
At Rydal Penrhos, we are always proud to learn of the incredible achievements of our former pupils, who regularly delight and inspire our community. In this vein, Rydal Penrhos is proud to announce that alumnus Morgan Kendall (RPS 2008-21) claimed victory at the Conwy Half Marathon on Sunday 19 November 2023.
One of the highlights of the North Wales sporting calendar, the Conwy Half Marathon attracts a tremendously high calibre of competition, with exceptionally talented distance runners gathering from near and far to follow the famous course that loops around the Great Orme from the historic town of Conwy.
Racing alongside Morgan were many familiar faces from the Rydal Penrhos community, including teacher and The Duke of Edinburgh Award Co-Ordinator Dr Lewis, and Adrian Lewis, Morgan’s classmate, and fellow member from the Class of 2021, who is train towards Ironman Copenhagen 2024 with the aim of raising money for St Kentigern Hospice.
Morgan’s exceptional race time of 1:11:55 not only secured his place at the top but also underscored his remarkable running skills. Morgan’s running journey began during his time at Rydal Penrhos, where he discovered a hobby that would evolve into a formidable athletic ability. Through consistent training and inherent speed, Morgan has become an accomplished long-distance runner, setting the stage for his recent victory.
Away from his athletic endeavours, Morgan had also excelled academically, achieving an impressive 4 A* grades at A-Level in Geography, Maths, Further Maths, and Physics. During Year 13, Morgan served as joint-Deputy Head Boy, and his contributions to the Senior Prefect Team were nothing short of fantastic. Now, following his time at Rydal Penrhos, Morgan is completing his studies at Durham University, where he reads Physics.
Rydal Penrhos would like to congratulate Morgan on this outstanding achievement, which, given the scale and quality of competition, ranks among the most notable sporting successes within our community in recent years. His journey is a testament to the values of dedication and commitment instilled at Rydal Penrhos, where Morgan joins the ranks of talented athletes and sportspeople who once honed their craft on our historic grounds.
