Nutrition visits educate the body and mind
January 30, 2023

Prep and Senior pupils at Rydal Penrhos benefitted from an informative talk from Ellie Olds, one of Holroyd Howe’s senior nutritionists.

Rydal Penrhos recognises the importance of social and emotional learning along with academics. One good place to find opportunities to support our pupils is by providing all the nutrients needed to keep them focused in and out of the classroom.

Maintaining a balanced diet and regular exercise is important for all individuals, especially those within education no matter their age. These children are required to eat a variety of foods from each group to ensure optimal intake of all vitamins and minerals.

At the same time, they may face new challenges regarding food choices and habits. Decisions about what to eat are partly determined by what is provided in school, at home, the influences from friends and the information they gather from social media, which is becoming a growing influence.

As part of our ongoing relationship with catering provider Holroyd Howe, we are able to access a host of specialists to educate and inform our pupils about what constituted a balanced diet and how healthy eating enhances development in and out of the classroom.

Ellie Olds, one of Holroyd Howe’s senior nutritionists, recently visited Rydal Penrhos to work with pupils and encourage them to make healthy eating choices.

Ellie spoke with Prep pupils during an informative session, encouraging them to try new foods. She also spent time with Senior School sporting teams to discuss the best way to prepare for training sessions or to be match ready.

As part of our work with Ellie, Rydal Penrhos will continue to replace some of our most popular menu items with healthier versions.

Who knew that the celebrated Rydal Penrhos brownie would taste just as good – if not better – with refined sugars replaced by beetroot?
