The newly renovated Osborn Hall is finding its place as Rydal Penrhos’ flagship educational hub.
After a significant amount of work and an ambitious project, The Osborn Hall has once again become the jewel in Rydal Penrhos’ crown. Used as a dining room and learning resource centre in the past, it is now finding its place as the flagship educational hub that’s proving hugely beneficial for the entire school community.
The school’s staff have devised a wonderful programme of activities for pupils throughout the academic year. Something that the Grade II listed Osborn Hall is becoming hugely influential upon thanks to its vast space, exceptional lighting and warm, welcoming character.
Recent mock examinations for GCSE and A Level candidates have been held in The Osborn Hall. A change in venue frees up the Memorial Hall for usual curriculum activities such as drama and it’s a switch that’s gone down extremely well with pupils.
Tristan Martin, who is a Year 13 pupil and Deputy Head Boy, said: “I’ve found that during exams, better lighting and a warmer environment take the edge off the stress.
“The Osborn Hall helped me focus more on the test itself and less on how cold I was, or how much time I had left. It provided a more relaxed space, and so eased the tension of an otherwise stressful exam.”
The venue is also being used to host performances and extra-curricular events for the first time since the renovation was completed earlier this year. A recent concert in aid of BBC Children in Need raised more than £500 and holding it in the Osborn Hall only added to an extremely worthwhile occasion for a worthy cause.
Rydal Penrhos has also taken the decision to hold its recent parents’ evenings within The Osborn Hall. This enables the Sixth Form Ferguson Centre to be retained for Years 12 and 13 during an important stage of their academic development.
It also allows parents to discuss their child’s progress in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. Something that bears more significance when one considers the COVID-19 restrictions that prevented such interactions from taking place anywhere other than online.
Sian Durrans, a current parent and staff member, added: ‘This term we have been extremely fortunate to hold our parents’ evenings in the Osborn Hall.
“It is an amazing venue, which has provided a great backdrop to an evening where parents and teachers can once again come together to have face-to-face conversations, discussing our children’s progress.”
We are enormously proud of The Osborn Hall’s new look and increasing involvement across all areas of school life. Staff will be adding to these as the academic year goes on as the spacious room enhances its reputation as the primary hub at Rydal Penrhos.
