Families visit for Prep Bauble making art workshops
December 19, 2022

Rydal Penrhos Prep School pupils and their families got creative during the annual Christmas art workshops, which centred on bauble making.

Creating art expands a child’s ability to interact with the world around them, and provides a new set of skills for self-expression and communication. This is something that is recognised at Rydal Penrhos across every year group, with the subject playing a pivotal role in early development and many going on to achieve superb examination results at both A Level and GCSE.

Not only does art help to develop the brain, but it also cultivates important skills that go far beyond the tangible statistics measured by studies. Curiosity, imagination and expression are at the centre of this and the school endeavours to maximise each pupil’s artistic prowess and build these areas that eventually become transferable skills across a variety of subjects.

Becoming artistic and creative is especially evident at this time of year at the Prep. There is an extra sense of festiveness in the air during the Christmas period, with teaching staff putting together an entertaining schedule of activities alongside the usual curriculum before the well-deserved end-of-term break.

One of the most anticipated occasions saw family members descend on Rydal Penrhos for the annual Art workshops. This year’s task saw pupils and parents/grandparents create their very own Christmas baubles using the vast array of materials on offer.

Thanks to some outstanding teamwork and a heart-warming atmosphere, there were many magnificent baubles that went on proud display across the Prep School corridors, which brought vibrant colour and glitter at a time when it’s more welcomed than ever.

The baubles were then transported to St John’s Church for the 2022 Carol and end-of-term services that brought in the long-awaited Christmas holidays.

Mrs Lucy Davies, who is Deputy Principal and Head of Prep, said: “Well done to all of the pupils and their parents and a big thank-you to our teachers and Mrs Holly Roberts who organised the workshops.”
