Meet the Pupil Leadership Team: Seren and Gregory, Rydal Penrhos Deputy Heads of School
April 28, 2026

As part of our introduction to the new Senior Pupil Leadership Team, Rydal Penrhos is delighted to celebrate Gregory and Seren, who will serve as Deputy Heads of School for 2026-27.

Their appointments recognise two pupils who have each made a strong and distinctive contribution to the life of the school. Both bring different strengths, experiences and perspectives to the role, united by a shared commitment to supporting others and contributing positively to the Rydal Penrhos community.

Gregory joined Rydal Penrhos in 2020 into Year 7 and has grown significantly during his time at the school, both academically and personally. His appointment reflects his steady commitment, thoughtful approach to leadership and desire to give something back to a community that has supported him through important formative years.

A key strength Gregory brings to the role is his understanding of the importance of setting a positive example for younger pupils. Through peer mentoring, he has developed his ability to support others with patience and encouragement. This commitment to younger children also extends beyond school, where he has helped lead Church Sunday school sessions and organise youth charity events.

Gregory has represented Rydal Penrhos in First Team Rugby and plays cricket regularly, both in school and outside school for Mochdre Cricket Club. These experiences have helped him develop teamwork, communication and resilience. He has also completed his Silver Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, further strengthening the qualities that will serve him well as a senior pupil leader.

Music has also played an important role in Gregory’s school life. His long-term involvement in the senior band has required responsibility, organisation and collaboration, including working with the Director of Music and other musicians in preparation for concerts and school events. Through this, he has contributed meaningfully to the cultural life of Rydal Penrhos.

As Deputy Head of School, Gregory is keen to help ensure that every pupil feels heard and valued. He is also mindful of the importance of welcoming new pupils into the community and helping them feel quickly at home at Rydal Penrhos.

Seren joined Rydal Penrhos in Year 10 in 2023, choosing the school for her GCSEs and A-Levels. In a relatively short time, she has become a positive and proactive member of the school community, bringing energy, warmth and a strong sense of responsibility to all she does.

Sport has been one of Seren’s great passions. She plays rugby for Nant Conwy and is a proud member of the school hockey and netball teams. Although a season-ending knee injury limited her sporting involvement this year, Seren has shown resilience, patience and perspective, drawing on the experience to strengthen the very qualities that are central to good leadership.

Seren is also developing her leadership through coaching, supporting younger pupils alongside Mrs Pyves as part of an extracurricular activity. This work has given her the opportunity to guide others while continuing to develop her own leadership style.

Beyond sport, Seren has taken part in a range of school activities, including Duke of Edinburgh, where she hopes to secure her Gold Award, and charitable initiatives such as Red Nose Day. She is also committed academically, taking her studies, homework and revision seriously, while maintaining the standards expected of a senior pupil.

One of Seren’s most notable strengths is her ability to listen and support others. Excellent with other pupils, Seren enjoys helping new members of the school settle into life at Rydal Penrhos.

As Deputy Head of School, Seren hopes to help organise events that involve pupils across all year groups, including House competitions and social events, while becoming even more of a role model to younger pupils across the school.

We warmly congratulate Gregory and Seren on their appointments as Deputy Heads of School. Both will play an important role, making a positive contribution to pupil leadership at Rydal Penrhos in the year ahead.
