Supporting Service Families: Rydal Penrhos School Signs the Armed Forces Covenant
March 25, 2024

As part of our ongoing efforts to better support service families, Rydal Penrhos School has recently signed the Armed Forces Covenant.

We are thrilled to announce a significant milestone in Rydal Penrhos School’s dedication to supporting our Armed Forces community. Principal Mr Hutchinson, accompanied by Mrs McLean, our Admissions and Marketing Manager, recently travelled to Venue Cymru for a momentous occasion: the school’s signing of the Armed Forces Covenant.

The covenant was not only inked by Mr Hutchinson but also by Commander Steve Henaghen, Chief of Staff and Deputy to the Naval Regional Commander Wales, Western England, and the Channel Islands. The Armed Forces Covenant is a promise signed by broad range of organisations, from businesses and local government to schools and charities, to provide fair and equal provision to individuals with service backgrounds.

Signing the covenant is the latest demonstration of Rydal Penrhos’ dedication to serving personnel, both regular and reservists, veterans, and military families. Rydal Penrhos has recently implemented a broad range of measures to support service families, including:

  • Providing a dedicated point of contact for service families.
  • Offering a comprehensive pastoral support network that includes our School Council, Peer Mentoring Programme, PSHE Curriculum, the TootToot app, and our Health and Wellbeing programmes.
  • Listening to the voice and views of our service children and involving them in decision-making and planning processes that affect them.
  • Celebrating the achievements and experiences of our service families and raising awareness of the Armed Forces community among our staff and pupils. This includes the annual observance of Remembrance Day.
  • Attending the local authority Armed Forces Forum and engaging with SSCE Cymru to keep up to date with the latest developments and resources for service children education.
  • Providing additional information and support in our Welcome Pack for service families joining our school.

The school is keenly aware that the dedication, sacrifice, and service of these brave individuals not only enriches our school community, but the country at large. The school will continue to listen to the needs and wants of service families, ever striving to provide individually tailored solutions within its high-quality educational provision.
