Members of the Rydal Penrhos Society recently visited Conwy Golf Club to compete for the honour of winning the Silcock Salver.
Sport is a powerful force that can help bring people together by fostering unity and camaraderie. At Rydal Penrhos, we deeply understand the importance of sport as a source of togetherness, not only for our current pupil teams but also for our alumni.
For this reason, the Rydal Penrhos Society organizes a variety of sports events throughout the year, creating opportunities for our alumni to reconnect and enjoy some friendly competition. This includes not only our Founders’ Weekend matches, but a series of cups and competitions throughout the year.
One such event that recently took place was the highly anticipated Silcock Salver. Held at the beautiful Conwy Golf Club course, this year’s event saw an impressive turnout of 28 players, all eager to showcase their golfing skills. The competition was fierce, but it was Andrew Hurst (RPS 2000) who emerged as the well-deserved winner, with an impressive gross score of 77 and 39 points overall.
The final leaderboard for the Silcock Salver was as follows:
- Winner – Andrew Hurst (39 Points)
- Runner-up – Richard Wolfendale (36 Points)
- Third Place – Tim Williams (33 Points)
While alumni battled it out for the Silcock Salver, there was also a separate category for guests. The Johnny Williams Cup saw Jack Travis claim victory with 32 points, closely followed by Liz Bruynooghe as the runner-up with 28 points. Congratulations to all the winners for their outstanding performances on the golf course.
Through the generosity of those alumni and guests involved, the event raised an impressive £500, which has been donated to the school to purchase new sports equipment. Such contributions and donations go a long way in enhancing the experiences of our current pupils, and we are grateful for the continued support of our alumni community.
Looking ahead, we are excited to announce the upcoming Marsden Trophy on Friday 23 June at Carden Park. This event promises another exhilarating day of golf, which will be shortly followed by the Pochin Cup, which is scheduled to take place on Tuesday 12 September at Sandiway.
For those interested in participating in any of our golf events or seeking further information, please contact alumni@rydalpenrhos.com, and we will gladly connect you with Richard Watson, who can provide you with all the necessary details.
We extend a warm invitation to our alumni to join us for Founders’ Weekend on 15 and 16 September 2023. This will be a fantastic opportunity to celebrate our shared heritage, reminisce about the good old days, and forge new connections with fellow alumni. It also represents a special reunion opportunity for our ‘3s’ (the leavers of 2023, 2013, 2003, and so on), who we look forward to welcoming back to Rydal Penrhos.
