With the resumption of term just over a week away, Rydal Penrhos is delighted to preview some of the fantastic upcoming theatre trips the drama department has planned.
From popular fairy tales in local venues to an adaptation of Kafka at the Lowry, we have a selection of trips that we hope will leave our pupils spellbound and inspired.
Of course, the dramatic highlight of the next seven weeks will be very close to home; on Monday 4 and Tuesday 5 December, Rydal Penrhos will proudly present ‘Grease’. The latest Senior production will welcome audiences back to senior year at Rydell High for an evening filled with some of the world’s best loved songs. Please click here to book your tickets.
In the meanwhile, here are just some of the trips the theatre-enthusiasts among our pupils can look forward to:
Metamorphosis
On Thursday 16 November, Year 10 and Year 12 Drama students will embark on a thrilling journey to witness a performance of ‘Metamorphosis‘ at the iconic Lowry Theatre in Salford Quays. This performance, presented by Frantic Assembly, promises to demonstrate an exciting and physical performance style that will enrich pupils’ appreciation of the art of drama.
Sleeping Beauty
Year 9 pupils are in for a magical treat on Friday 8 December as they head to Theatr Clwyd in Mold to watch ‘Sleeping Beauty.’ Our budding actors, who staged their own pantomime last year, will have the chance to enjoy a production by the team recently awarded the prestigious title of ‘Best Pantomime (Under 500 Seats)’ at the Pantomime Awards 2023.
Adding to the festive atmosphere, this year’s show will be held in a heated circus big top tent adjacent to the theatre. It promises to be a memorable day out for Year 9 filled with both fun and learning.
Peter Pan
Year 8 can look forward to a journey to the magical world of ‘Peter Pan‘ on Thursday 14 December, which is being staged at Venue Cymru. As part of their curriculum, Year 8 will soon be presenting their own pantomime, so this outing offers them a valuable chance to witness professional actors on stage, which will hopefully spark their creativity and imagination.
Later in the Academic Year
Even after the pantomime season is finished and Christmas has come and gone for another year, there will still be plenty of dates for our pupils to mark in their calendars.
On Thursday 15 February, Rydal Penrhos pupils can witness another version of Henry VIII’s England on stage, further to our successful ‘Henry the Tudor Dude’ production, in the form of ‘SIX: The Musical.’ The play will see the six wives of Henry VIII, reimagined in a modern context, step onto the stage to narrate their stories.
Less than a month later, on Thursday 7 March, Rydal Penrhos pupils will have an opportunity to see one of our own on stage as Rydal Penrhos alumnus The Vivienne stars as the Wicked Witch of the West in ‘The Wizard of Oz’. We cannot wait to see how the RuPaul’s Drag Race UK and Dancing On Ice star brings this iconic character to life on the stage of Venue Cymru.
Stay tuned for more details and sign up to be part of these unforgettable theatrical experiences. Each is an opportunity for our pupils to be inspired, educated, and captivated by the world of performing arts.
