March 11, 2020

A Preparatory School football side got the chance to sample the life of a Premier League star recently.

The U11 squad at Rydal Penrhos took a trip to the Etihad Academy Complex, home of Barclays Premier League champions Manchester City, on Friday, March 6 for a special tournament organised by the Independent Association of Prep Schools.

This saw the squad compete against Stockport Grammar School, Cheadle Hulme School and Birkenhead School during a round-robin competition.

Despite not coming away with the overall victory, the team performed incredibly well in the face of some stern opposition to continue their encouraging run of performances during the academic year.

Following the event, Head of Games Jamie McLeod arranged a special tour of Manchester City’s facilities for the pupils, which saw them take in areas of the first team stadium.

They spent time in the state-of-the-art changing rooms, the press area and even got the chance to go pitch-side and see where the likes of Sergio Aguero, Bernardo Silva and Raheem Sterling perform in front of their adoring fans.

Mr McLeod, said: “It was another very encouraging tournament for our U11 squad, who have come on a significant amount during the season.

“They all got a tremendous amount out of the experience and were blown away by the facilities during the ground tour of the Etihad Stadium.”

U11 squad: Dominic Chamberlain, Sonny Murphy-Peers, James Davies, Felix Griffin, Archie Jeeves, Will Glanville, Rupert Barrington-Chance, Nathan Richards.
