Rydal Penrhos: WJEC thanks schools for PPE production
May 14, 2020

A Welsh examinations board has thanked Rydal Penrhos and other schools across the country for their effort to produce PPE during the coronavirus pandemic.

The WJEC released a statement outlining how impressed the organisation has been with the collective effort of state and independent schools including Rydal Penrhos to assist NHS staff and critical keyworkers in the fight against Covid-19.

A WJEC spokesperson, said: “We’d like to say a massive thank you to all the schools across the country who have generously offered time, machinery and resources by making (and donating) face masks and other personal protective equipment to help the NHS and other workers avoid infection.

“It is inspiring to see so many people pulling together, across the community, to support those caring for us. Below are just some of the schools manufacturing PPE for health workers across Wales.

“There are many more doing their part across the whole of the UK. Well done, fantastic work from everybody!”

Rydal Penrhos’ PPE project, which is headed by design technology teacher Mark Harmsworth, technician James Bonser and Sixth Form pupil Jamie Lavery, has produced more than 2,000 protective masks so far.

It has also received support from other pupils making masks from home, with Llion and Sophie Morris, Emily and Harry Nurse and Year 10 pupil Chay Bonnington also taking time in-between their remote learning to make masks.
