Rydal Penrhos is celebrating after Deputy Head of School Eve Durrans has been offered places at all five of her university options in record time.
The UCAS application process is well underway at Rydal Penrhos, with Year 13 pupils actively submitting their applications, while their younger peers in Years 11 and 12 diligently prepare for this crucial step in their academic journey.
In a notable development, the school is celebrating an achievement by one of its Deputy Heads of School. Within just two working days of submitting her applications, Year 13 pupil Eve Durrans received offers from all five of her chosen universities, where she aims to study Event Management.
Mr Farnell, our experienced UCAS and Careers Advisor with over thirty-five years of teaching experience at Rydal Penrhos School, has commended Eve’s achievement, noting that it is the fastest a pupil has received all five offers in his time.
One of the keys to Eve’s success has been her dedication to gathering real-world experience in her field of interest.
For over a year, Eve has been working for Event Lounge, an esteemed North Wales events and entertainment company owned by Rydal Penrhos parents, Mr and Mrs Silv and Sarah Del Prete.
Eve has also shadowed our Commercial Assistant, Mrs Helen Thomas, in her work at Perfectly Planned by Helen, recently recognized as ‘Best Planner’ at the North Wales Wedding Awards 2023.
Following Rydal Penrhos’ inaugural Industry and Enterprise Day in April 2023, Eve has also taken the opportunity to learn from one of the keynote speakers; Rydal Penrhos alumnus Sophie Morris, Managing Director of Worldspan.
Worldspan is a prominent communications and event management agency that has grown from a two-person start-up to a mid-sized global agency in its 50 years of existence.
Eve said: “All these experiences have been really useful as they demonstrate to universities that you are not just applying to any course, but that you instead know exactly what the course involves.”
Eve has cited the important contributions of Rydal Penrhos staff, particularly the Commercial Team – Mrs McLean and Mrs Thomas – and UCAS and Careers Advisor Mr Farnell.
“None of us applying to university could do it without him,” said Eve. “Mr Farnell spent hours during study lessons, working with us on our applications to help get them ready to be sent off early. This is important as some courses will offer places on a first-come, first-serve basis.”
Eve’s success underscores the school’s commitment to providing not only academic excellence but also fostering practical skills and real-world connections for its pupils. We are delighted that she can now focus on achieving the best possible A-Level results with clarity and confidence regarding her options for next year.
Congratulations Eve!
