A superb day of camaraderie and competition at Conwy Golf Club offered a wonderful reflection of the vibrant Rydal Penrhos community.
At Rydal Penrhos, our commitment to holistic education extends far beyond the classroom. We proudly champion lifelong connections and character-building experiences through sport. Whether it’s our Rugby players proudly wearing the iconic Rydal Vikings jersey, or alumnae returning to compete against our current Hockey and Netball teams for the annual Natalie Kate Moss Trophy, we are always thrilled to see former pupils sharing their passion for sport with the next generation.
In this spirit, Wednesday 9 April 2025 marked the debut of a new format for our golf events, held at the spectacular Conwy Golf Club. The occasion encapsulated the very best of our community – uniting alumni, current pupils and guests in a celebration of tradition, participation and achievement.
Eighteen players took part in this year’s event, spanning multiple generations of Rydal Penrhos alumni. Notably, two current pupils competed for the prestigious Watson Cup, representing the school with outstanding composure and talent. Finlay Brown produced a remarkable performance, scoring 45 Stableford points – an impressive nine under his handicap – with a gross score of 86. Fellow pupil Huw Williams also impressed, finishing with a strong 40 points, four under his handicap. Their performances were a true testament to the school’s dedication to nurturing well-rounded excellence.
The Silcock Salver for alumni was a strong contest, with Guy Watson taking home the title on 37 points. Meanwhile, Mike Roberts triumphed in the guest category, winning the Johnny Williams Cup with 36 points, narrowly defeating long-serving Rydal Penrhos teacher Ian Richardson.
We look forward to welcoming even more pupils to future Golf Days, growing participation in the Watson Cup and continuing to strengthen our thriving golf community. Until then, our sincere thanks and congratulations to all who took part – we eagerly anticipate the next memorable day on the fairway.
