Rydal Penrhos pupils have demonstrated their skiing skills with some excellent performances at the ISA National Skiing Championships in Hemel Hempstead.
At Rydal Penrhos, one of our key assets is our location. Situated on the North Wales coastline only a five-minute walk from the sea and a twenty-five-minute drive from Snowdonia, our location not only provides rich history, culture and beauty, but also opens many opportunities to our pupils.
From sailing off the Rhos-on-Sea promenade to skiing on the dry slope in Llandudno, Rydal Penrhos pupils enjoy incredible outdoor pursuits across the local area. A dedicated Ski Club takes to the slopes of the Great Orme each week and is a firm favourite among the many extra-curricular clubs offered by the school.
All this practice brought real reward recently as the Prep School’s skiing enthusiasts descended upon the ISA National Indoor Ski Championships 2023/24. In a field boasting 125 talented skiers, our young athletes showcased their skills, determination, and sheer passion for skiing, leaving their mark on the event.
Rydal Penrhos’ A Team set the bar high, with remarkable performances across the board. Leading the pack was the phenomenal Wilfred Jones, securing an exceptional 1st place in the U10’s category.
Not far behind, William Oliver claimed an impressive 9th place, closely followed by Camilla Simmons, who finished 10th in the U10’s category. Phoebe Jewsbury added to the team’s success, earning a well-deserved 15th place in the U10’s category.
Not to be outdone, the Rydal Penrhos B Team also displayed their mettle on the slopes. Casey Lord-Langton exhibited determination and grit, earning a commendable 17th place in the U10’s category. Carys Winfield, competing in the U12’s category, showcased her skills with a solid 25th place finish. Sebastian Lennon and Henry Savage, both in the U12’s category, contributed significantly with finishes at 47th and 48th places, respectively.
It is truly remarkable that our U10 A Team members competed against U12 skiers and still managed to clinch the 3rd place overall in the junior category. This achievement underscores the dedication and talent of our budding skiers. Going head-to-head with some tough competition from independent schools across the country, our skiers demonstrated their resilience and passion for the sport, earning well-deserved accolades and recognition.
Rydal Penrhos would like to congratulate to all the participating pupils for their exceptional performances. These results are a testament to their sporting enthusiasm and the brilliant support of their teachers and instructors. As we look ahead, we are eager to witness our young skiers continue to shine in upcoming competitions and set new milestones in the exhilarating world of skiing.
