One School, Four Houses: An Exciting Future for Rydal Penrhos’ Thriving House System
July 26, 2024

As the house model at Rydal Penrhos undergoes its most significant change in a generation, its positive impact on school life has never been clearer.

The house system at Rydal Penrhos has consistently been a force for good throughout our school’s history. The competitions, events, and sense of identity that houses bring have always helped pupils forge lasting connections, promoting camaraderie and school spirit.

The house system is not just a source of identity and community; it is also a way of acknowledging good behaviour and achievement. House points can be earned for all types of positive actions, serving as an important source of reward beyond the satisfaction of a great exam result or victory in a sporting fixture.

Throughout the academic year 2023-24, both the Prep and Senior Schools enjoyed a variety of brilliant inter-house competitions and events.

The Inter-house Christmas Song Contest was a highlight, with Wesley triumphing amidst a field of energetic and imaginative performances. The Prep Inter-house Skiing Competition showcased the exceptional skiing skills of our pupils, honed through weekly practice sessions at the Llandudno Snowsport Centre. At the very end of the year, Sports Day proved a real highlight, bringing the entire school community together in a wonderful celebration of talent and teamwork.

House Weeks for Osborn, Morgan, Payne, and Wesley added a new vibrancy to our house dynamics. These weeks featured exciting events catering to the diverse interests of all pupils, from table tennis and chess competitions to a week-long talent contest.

Looking ahead, Rydal Penrhos is delighted to announce a unified four-house model across the school from September 2024. This move, coinciding with the relocation of the Pre-School and Prep to create a one-school campus, will foster even closer ties and friendships among pupils of all ages, from two to eighteen.

As we anticipate this new chapter in the history of our four houses – Osborn, Morgan, Payne and Wesley – we are eager to see the contributions our Pre-School and Prep pupils will make. Their enthusiasm and positivity can never be doubted and will undoubtedly add to the already competitive contest for the Yeung Bowl House Cup.

Our new one-school, four-house model is just one example of why September 2024 is set to be the most exciting period for our school in recent history.
