Rydal Penrhos Head of Sport Mr Kirby shares his account of preseason training; a superb experience that has proven both fun and productive for every pupil involved:
“Our pupils kicked off their preseason training on Wednesday with an initial team meeting led by our PE staff and sport captains. During the meeting, we discussed our standards, expectations, and goals for the upcoming season, setting the tone for what promises to be a productive and challenging year.
“After the meeting, the pupils split into their respective groups: girls’ hockey and boys’ rugby. The rugby players participated in a strength and conditioning session, followed by skills and games on New Field. Meanwhile, the girls headed to the Astro Turf to focus on dribbling, passing, ball control, and individual skills in hockey.
“Following a well-deserved lunch in the Dining Hall, the boys transitioned into a hockey session while the girls worked on their netball skills, concentrating on individual techniques and match play.
“As the day’s on-pitch training concluded, the pupils were ready for some much-needed rest and recovery. This included a refreshing dip in the sea and some relaxing time on the pitch. We then made our way back to Glan Aber, where Mr Sutton and the Casa Pizza team were waiting for us with pizzas ready for dinner!
“Thursday began with a focus on mobility and recovery exercises, ensuring the pupils were in top condition after the previous day’s efforts. After breakfast, we wrapped up our training with a competitive mixed game of hockey, bringing a fun and spirited end to our preseason activities.
“It has been fantastic to bring so many of our Rydal Penrhos athletes together as the summer holidays draw to a close for an action-packed two days of hockey, rugby, and netball. Beyond just improving their skills on the pitch, the pupils had valuable time to bond and build team spirit, setting the stage for a busy first term filled with fixtures.
“Spending time with our pupils allowed us to clearly outline what lies ahead, including upcoming fixtures, competitions, and training sessions. I want to give full credit to all the pupils who attended—you’ve worked extremely hard, and it’s been a pleasure to coach you over these past two days. This preseason prep has been crucial in getting us ready for the challenges of the upcoming season.
“A big thank you to Miss Doran, Mr Wilkinson, and Mr Rippon for all your hard work!”
