Cricket: Rydal Penrhos Pupils Shine at Mochdre Cricket Club Awards
November 16, 2024

Young cricketers from Rydal Penrhos were recognised at Mochdre Cricket Club’s recent awards evening, highlighting the school’s enduring cricketing tradition.

Across a 140-year history, Rydal Penrhos School has developed a proud tradition of sporting excellence, fostering talent and teamwork across a wide range of sporting disciplines. Nowhere is this more evident than in cricket, where our historic home pitch, New Field, has inspired generations to a love of the game.

At the recent Mochdre Cricket Club Awards Evening, held at The Kinmel, the next generation of Rydal Penrhos cricketers had cause for celebration. Several of our pupils were recognised for exceptional contributions during a highly successful club season, which saw Mochdre’s 1st and 2nd XI teams claim league titles, and their 3rd XI finish a close second in their league.

Several talented Rydal Penrhos pupils earned individual accolades, presented by Old Rydalian and Club Chairman Jon Davies. These included:

  • Freddie Griffin (Year 8): U13 Bowling Award.
  • Huw Williams (Year 9): U13 Most Improved Player and the David Lysak Award.
  • James Davies (Year 10): U15 Bowling Award and the Mens’ 3rd Team Players’ Player Trophy.
  • Harry Nurse (Year 10): U15 Most Improved Player.
  • James Gilman (2nd XI): Batting Award.

Joining the strong Rydal Penrhos contingent at the awards was Class of 2024 leaver Oliver Davies, who has played his part admirably in both school and club cricket for many years. Mochdre Cricket Club has long provided budding Rydal Penrhos cricketers with invaluable opportunities to hone their skills and deepen their passion for the game.

This kind of continued enthusiasm for cricket has been instrumental in driving a resurgence in the game at our school, following the sporting hiatus enforced by the Covid pandemic. Our cricket teams made more positive strides over the most recent season, which was highlighted by a historic 100-year anniversary fixture against Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC).

Rydal Penrhos is immensely proud of all our pupils for their achievements and the example they set on and off the cricket field. We would like to congratulate all the recent award winners on their well-deserved accolades.

Brilliantly done, everyone!
