Championing Excellence: Rydal Penrhos Celebrates Senior Colours Awards 2024
April 25, 2024

On Thursday 25 April, Rydal Penrhos honoured the diverse achievements of its pupils as the school celebrated the 2024 Senior Colours Awards.

At Rydal Penrhos School, we firmly believe that education extends far beyond the confines of the classroom. While academic excellence is crucial, we also recognize the value of sports, extra-curricular activities, and expressive arts pursuits in fostering a well-rounded education.

These aspects not only nurture physical and creative talents but also instil essential life skills such as teamwork, discipline, and resilience. It is this holistic approach to education that forms the bedrock of our vision and ethos.

In this spirit, the 2024 Senior Colours Awards was an opportunity to celebrate everything our pupils achieve away from the classroom. This important annual event saw pupils honoured with colours or half-colours for their outstanding contributions to sports, extra-curricular activities, and expressive arts.

The afternoon began with a welcome from the Principal, Mr Tom Hutchinson, who introduced the Guest Speaker, Mr Paul Whapham. A distinguished figure in the realm of sports leadership, with over 20 years of experience at the Ospreys and now Hockey Wales, Mr Whapham shared his insights with the audience, encouraging pupils to be lifelong learners and pursue their passions.

Mr Whapham then presented the awards, including historic cups and prizes that added to the prestige of this already standout occasion. Among the major trophies, there were notable wins for Oliver Davies, Lily Davies and Eve Durrans, who claimed the prizes for boys’ and girls’ sport.

Multitalented star Freddie MacLaverty took home the Ronald Grimes Sailing Achievement Cup, while in the field of Expressive Arts, David Tate won the Pinn Cup for Vocal Performance, and Faith Wardle took home the Robson Cup for Best Acting Performance.

As we reflect on the 2024 Senior Colours Awards, we take pride in the accomplishments of our pupils and the values they embody. Beyond the trophies and accolades, these awards are a testament to the spirit of ‘doing all the good you can’ that defines the Rydal Penrhos experience.

Well done to all!
