Sporting fixtures aplenty at Founders’ Weekend 2021
September 7, 2021

There will be a host of fantastic sporting fixtures during the annual Founders’ Weekend event at Rydal Penrhos, which is making a welcome return this year.

One of the main highlights of the Founders’ Weekend festivities is the many sporting events that take place. Sport, of course, has always formed a key part of the school’s rich and illustrious history, with many pupils going on to achieve great things professionally and even at medal success at the Olympic Games.

Unfortunately, sporting fixtures have taken a back seat over the last 18 months due to COVID-19 restrictions, but things look far more promising during the autumn term for our pupils and alumni during what should be a fantastic occasion for all involved on Saturday 11 September.

Current pupils will square off against a select team of alumni for the annual Natalie Kate Moss Trophy in both hockey and netball fixtures to start the morning. This is held in memory of a much-loved former pupil and showcases the exceptional talent past and present from the school.

For those looking to start their weekend off on an active foot themselves, a special Fox Trot/Fell Run has been organised by Richard Watson and will begin at 11am.

The 6-7 mile social run takes those taking part into Pwllycrochan woods, up the Nant-y-Glyn Valley with a loop-back over the tops towards the sea.

There is a mixture of road, wooded trails and open farmland on local footpaths, mainly off-road. Some fantastic views are absolutely guaranteed and it’s sure to be plenty of fun for all involved.

Vikings rugby match also returns at the Rydal Penrhos Founders’ Weekend.

Of course, it wouldn’t be Founders’ Weekend without the Vikings Rugby match, which will be held on Rydal Penrhos’ incredible New Field venue from 2.30pm.

This is a historic fixture not to be missed, with players competing for the prestigious Bleddyn Williams Trophy, named after a former Rydal School pupil and one of the country’s greatest-ever players.

There is still time for anybody wishing to participate to register their interest using the methods below:

We cannot wait to welcome everyone back this weekend. It’s been a long time coming!
