At the start of a busy Trinity Term, Rydal Penrhos paused to commend the achievements of its The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award candidates, as the popular programme goes from strength-to-strength.
Rydal Penrhos School is proud to offer a diverse educational experience, encompassing everything from exceptional lessons led by experienced teachers, to a wide array of extracurricular activities, including Dissection Club, Sports Practices, and Combined Cadet Force (CCF).
One of the most popular opportunities beyond the classroom is The Duke of Edinburgh’s (DofE) Award. This renowned program empowers young people to develop skills, confidence, and resilience through a series of challenging activities encompassing volunteering, physical fitness, skill development, and adventurous expeditions.
On Wednesday 10 April, the school gathered in the Ferguson Centre to celebrate the remarkable achievements of its DofE participants. DofE Manager Dr Lewis eloquently outlined the key features and benefits of the DofE Award; from explaining the components of the award, to outlining the challenging routes participants face during their practice and qualifying expeditions.
However, the stars of the evening were the pupils themselves. Our young people took centre stage to share their first-hand experiences, demonstrating superb knowledge and confidence.
Each offered a unique contribution, from Head Girl Ruby describing her unforgettable residential trip to the beaches of Thailand, to Year 11 pupil Will’s captivating guitar performance; a skill he honed to fulfil the ‘Skills’ component of his award.
Principal Mr Hutchinson said; “The stories our pupils told about how they pushed past their comfort zones and embraced challenges was truly inspiring. Thank you to the dedicated staff who support them in their awards, making an evening like this possible.”
Congratulations are in order for all involved in this interesting and informative evening. Rydal Penrhos looks forward to further celebrating its pupils at the Senior Colours Awards later this month, which promises to be just as inspiring and joyful an occasion as last year.
