Rydal Penrhos Speech and Drama Pupils Shine in LAMDA Assessments
August 3, 2023

Speech and Drama pupils at Rydal Penrhos produced yet another incredible set of results in their latest LAMDA assessments.

The benefits of Speech and Drama lessons for pupils at Rydal Penrhos are immeasurable, nurturing skills that go beyond the stage and into various aspects of life. These classes provide a safe and supportive environment for pupils to explore their creativity, improve their communication, and boost their self-confidence.

Pupils learn the art of storytelling, which helps them express their thoughts and emotions effectively. They develop strong communication skills, both verbal and non-verbal, allowing them to articulate their ideas with clarity and poise. Such abilities are invaluable in everyday life, from delivering presentations in school to confidently engaging in conversations with peers and adults.

As part of their Speech and Drama studies, Rydal Penrhos pupils complete LAMDA assessments that offer them the opportunity to gain additional qualifications, with the potential to achieve a prestigious Gold Award and valuable UCAS points. This can provide an important advantage when looking to secure first-choice university destinations.

In their recent LAMDA exams, all Rydal Penrhos candidates surpassed the standard ‘pass’ mark, with 30 pupils attaining Distinctions, and 14 achieving Merit-worthy scores. Among the standout performers were Safa Maqsood, Alice Beamish, Dylan Lloyd-Bloom, and newly-appointed Head of School Will Tavernor.

These pupils exemplify the high standard of acting and performance at the school, as recently demonstrated by ‘Mystery at Magpie Manor’ and ‘Henry the Tudor Dude’. As we look forward to the start of another school year in September, we can expect similarly excellent plays and performances, not least the highly-anticipated Senior production in October.

We would like to commend our pupils on their fantastic achievement and thank Mrs Bloomfield, who leads the Speech and Drama programme for Senior pupils.
